Hey! My name is Jessica and this blog is for me to write down all my thoughts. It will be mostly about dogs, but I crochet a lot also, so I will post the patterns I write. Have fun!

Zeke 9/8/11
Recently Zeke has been easing into comfortableness and has expressed it like an orphan. He keeps sneaking food out of the trash, running after rabbits, and once he chewed on a "cookie" from Daffy's litter box! One morning, I was trying to get him to pee in the backyard on a leash because of the rabbits, and he wouldn't pee! I was out there for literally fifteen minutes walking around our backyard. So I took him on his morning walk and came back, and he still hadn't peed yet. He came inside and stood by the backdoor, and in a couple seconds I heard shouts of, "Ah! What's he doing?" "Mom, he's peeing!" I immediately stopped him and had my sis take him outside to finish his business as my mom and I soaked up the accident with ShamWOWs. He also chewed on some of my stuffed animals, but there was no wear or tear except for the eyeball he had previously pulled off was lying on the floor longing for its owner. Other than that he's been good, heels on walks, and gets along tolerably with the cat. I'm teaching him to fetch a pencil and play dead when I loom over him with my arms waving and me roaring like a bear. He's adorable when he's looking up at me with his ears back and his chin down, like: "I'm a good dog, hm?"

Boggie and Zeke 8/22/11
I recently got my own dog, Zeke, and I took him to Boggie's today. He had already been there before, but I didn't write about it. They were not very good today. Leah came, so I could make sure she knew what she was doing, which she did, but Boggie and Zeke were wild. Well, Boggie isn't wild, but he's a pushover. We were running down the hill and they decided to go left, ignore our calls, and then right down to the pond! They didn't jump in, but they still ignored us. Then they just didn't follow orders. Strict re-enforcement will be given to Zeke, and I hope Boggie will grow some backbone. Other than that, they were good, and they did come back, I just needed to rant. So thank you and goodbye. =]

Boggie 4/28/11
Boggie's substitute forgot something important yesterday, so she worked hard on remembering it today. She did pretty good, although I had to remind her the first few times. We had a good walk, and started to watch a movie, but we couldn't find the remote. Boggie wad good.
Boggie 4/27/11
Today was pretty hot. Summers are good for walking dogs because they get tired quicker. My substitute-in-training was good today. Boggie had fun, too! We walked for about half an hour. My little trainee is going to come let him out around three, because I will not be home until six. This is a good opportunity because she will be able to try by herself before I leave. I'm getting a new haircut today if I can! Yaaaayyyy!!! ^.^
Boggie 4/28/11 (4:30)
I did not walk Boggie very long, because we have company over, and I'm not sure we're even supposed to walk him when we come over in the evenings. I took him to my house, kingdom of the cat as he thinks, and brought him inside. I had him sit by the fridge and I gave him some cheese for being such a good boy and to associate my house with good things. Then I fed him an. Let him go potty. Bye, Boggie!

Boggie 4/26/11
It's my brother's birthday today! Yay! ^.^ He's seventeen now! Anyways, my review of Boggie's substitute walker is this: B. She is very good, but she forgets things sometimes, although that is expected, and she let's Boggie go ahead of her a little more than he should. That is fine with a dog like Boggie, though. He is very calm and knows his boundaries. He doesn't respond to her as well because she is very laid back and doesn't know/remember all the words for the commands. Overall I'd say she is the perfect girl for the job! She is going to let him out to go potty all by herself tomorrow at three because I will not be available till five-ish. She will not be available for the four-thirty thing on thursday. Bye, Boggie!
P.S. Boggie's owner: my bro will be home soon and I know he'll love the card you gave him!

Boggie 4/25/11 (4:30)
We went back today and walked Boggie for fifteen minutes, then we made him lie down whilst we put two half cups of dog food into his bowl. I mixed it with my hands to make it smell more like me, then he ate it and we left.
Boggie 4/25/11
Today was fun! I got my neighborhood friend and "trained" her in the way of the dog walker. =p She is very good and Boggie really likes her. Tomorrow she will try walking him without my help. I'll just watch and give her a grade! ;3 We walked for half an hour then played DS and then went home. We will come back at four! Bye, Boggie!

Boggie and Penny 4/21/11
Today was an utter fail walking to Boggie's. I was almost there when I realized I was walking there in my slippers! I wasn't about to go back, so I got Boggie, who was playful, and Penny, who was wagging her stubby tail really hard, and went on a walk in my fuzzy slippers. I passed by the house and changed into my flip-flops. We went by our friends' house and while Penny was pooping, Boggie peed on her leg! I have no idea why. Maybe he just missed or something. They were good on the walk, although I tripped on Penny a lot. I do that frequently. We walked for an hour then came back. Would Penny's owner like me to teach her any tricks?

Boggie, Penny and Hope 4/20/11
Hope the Walker Hound (I keep calling her Lucy) was at Boggie's today. She is the cleaning lady's teenage-ish puppy. Penny did not seen to want to walk today. She pulled backwards a little on our walk. Boggie pulled forward a little. Hope was great, but he got distracted some. I walked Boggie an Penny on one side, my left, and Hope on the other side, my right. We walked for about half an hour before they were tired and hot. They were awesome! It must have been so funny to see a thirteen-year-old girl walking three giant dogs who stayed by her side! Anyways, bye, Boggie! ^.^

Boggie and Penny 4/8/11
Penny was happy to see me today. Her little stump tail wagged! Today I decided to use Boggie's nose to trigger him out of his fixation. We walked for half an hour and Penny's allergies fired up. Then when we came back I turned on my music to relax me and I got out my special dollar tree treats and takins the flashlight across the room. Then I took the smelly treats and called the dogs. Whenever they came I gave them a treat. Boggie stayed near me so I had him do some tricks like a training session like the flashlight wasn't even there. Boggie seemed much calmer because Penny was there and I had him lie on his side. He did pretty well and he trembled a little when we were done but that's normal. He did well. It was a good day. Bye, Boggie!

Boggie 4/14/11
It was soo pretty today! We walked for an hour and Bogie enjoyed it. He is making great progress in his tricks! He is a heavy boy and so needs to hold on to my arm when he begs but he does good anyways. Nothing much to tell. He is a blessing to walk! ^.^ Bye, Boggie!

Boggie 4/13/11
Boggie knows what beg and a treat behind his head means. He sits ip and places his paws on my hand to steady himself and takes the treat. I am also adding a hand command to say hi. It is a right-handed "mouth" from my hand moving up and down like barking. He seems to get it. We walked with neighborhood friends for an hour as usual and had lots of fun. I am getting a haircut soon and I'm going to do something I haven't dine before. I am going to cut two strands near my face so it ends at my jaw line and I'm getting side swept bangs and possibly a razor cut (no, not bald!) so it looks kind of choppy. I am also going to create a kind of brand of clothing and accessories that are really bright and fun and funky for daring people! ^.^ I can't wait to get to the craft store! Anyways, Boggie is very good at waiting when I stop to tie my shoe or pick up his poo or something! He is good at high five but does it sometimes when I don't ask him so I'm working on that. Bye, Boggie!

Boggie 4/12/11
Boggie had a good walking day today. I let one of my trusty neighborhood friends walk him. They were very good and Boggie stayed with us the whole time. I walked Susan and she was good at first, but then she started lunging at stuff. She is a small dog, so she didn't get very far but if she was my dog, I would have to fix that behavior. But anyways, we walked for an hour and had fun.

Boggie and Penny 4/11/11
I made a new discovery! A valuable lesson if you will. Penny is usually skittish around me, but today she was actually a little enthusiastic to see me! The thing is, I usually look her straight in the eye when I first come in through the door, but that's not very good. There is a very reasonable rule about how to greet a dog. It's called "no touch, no sound, no eye contact." It means don't touch the dog, don't talk to the dog, and don't look at the dog. Pretend it's not there. That way, the dog won't feel intimidated, and will come up and smell you if it wants to get to know you.
Anyways, I walked in and was saying 'let's go outside' to Boggie when Penny jumped off the couch. I hadn't even known she was there! She was very energetic and did not make me call her to go outside. The con of her being friendly was that she pulled more. =\ Oh, well, she was great anyways! Boggie was his usual calm self, but he gets even calmer and happier when Penny is there. We got our neighborhood friend and walked for an hour. Penny and Boggie were very good at waiting at their house. They sat there during the whole thing even with a dog barking. I had them face away from the house and sit, not looking at the dog so to not look as though they were intruding. The dog, a malti-poo named Buddy, came up and sniffed their behinds, and Penny, having a reputation for not being very friendly, looked a little uncomfortable, but she sat and let him sniff her. Boggie was nice and said hello politely. They were both tired and Boggie was very hot when we went back. I brought my friend inside for a minute to show her around a little, because she's going to be walking Boggie sometimes. Penny seemed much more comfortable around me. Bye, Boggie and Penny!

Boggie 4/7/11
Boggie had a big workout today. It was really warm, so both he and I were lethargic and tired out quickly. I did a little boot camp training with Boggie at the "Dog Academy." =P He knows that "beg" means lift his front feet off the ground while his behind stays down, and "high five" means he is to lift his paw and touch my palm with it. He doesn't do high five to other people yet, I think. We got our neighborhood friend again and we walked around the neighborhood for about an hour. Boggie walked well but he pulled a little. He seems to pull more when I'm with friends. I think if people are distracted when walking dogs, the dogs pull harder. After we dropped our friend off, we dragged ourselves (literally) back to Boggie's house. When I let him inside, he walked slowly over to the cool hard floor and laid on his side. After a little bit, I heard a soft THUMP and looked over to see Boggie's head on the ground. His eyes were half-closed and he looked so cute and tired. I turned the tv on and biked home. I can't wait to drink a giant glass of orange juice! If we still have some, that is.

Boggie 4/6/11
Boggie didn't seem to feel well today. Angel wondered if he had an eat infection because he kept shaking his head. Boggie gets the concept of high five, but he keeps licking my face. =3 He is getting better at beg but keeps getting of his behind, so I have to remind him to sit. He seemed to feel better on the walk. We went and got my neighborhood friend who's going to walk Boggie during the summer. While she was getting ready, I talked to her mom about walking Boggie. She said she was fine with it so I said I'd try to remember to bring her to meet Boggie's owner that evening. I let my friend walk Boggie and she had Boggie stay near us but let him walk in front. Boggie is a very submissive dog so he was fine and did not try to dominate us at all. That's the thing about dogs like Boggie. You can let them in front and it won't matter much. He was very tired when I came back. I did a little bit of obey and high five training and then talked to the lady that cleans the house. Boggie was lying down on his side when I left, perfectly happy.

Boggie 4/5/11
Today was a rainy-ish day. I brought my food because I didn't have enough time to eat. I slept in today. Boggie was very good at not begging after I corrected him. He had laid down at my feet and was looking up at me so I looked into his eyes. Since he didn't look away, I stared harder, thinking in my mind, "you are NOT getting this food" and leaned forward a little. Boggie looked away and rolled over on his side submissively like a good boy. I saved a little for Boggie training. We went on a walk. I find it is easier to walk a dog if you are not focusing on the dog. Just think about things you are going to do and stuff and it is easier. He was a good walker as usual. When we came back I tried teaching him to bow, but he didn't get it, so I tried teaching him to beg, and it was rough, so I tried teaching him to high five, and it was surprisingly easy! I just squatted next to him and put my hand up like I was going to high-five someone. I said, "high five" and didn't give him a treat until he touched my palm with his paw. I am a fan of letting them figure out the trick for themself, not lifting their paw and whatnot. They learn better this way. I tried teaching him to beg again and it worked better! Beg is still really hard for him because he is so heavy but what I did was I squatted in front of him and put a treat he likes and is smelly above his head and back a little. I said, "beg" and didn't give him the treat until he sat up and put his paws in "beg" mode and held it for a nanosecond or so. He is not able to hold it long but I think if I time it right, he will learn beg easily! =] Boggie's owner put away his makeshift hurdle, but that's okay. I will have to find a better, more light-weight, less dangerous one for him instead. That way it won't have to stay in Boggie's yard and I could use it for other dogs, too. It will take a while to find one, but I will keep a lookout. I found a dog backpack online, but it is like forty dollars, so I will have to see if I can get a sale or something. I will have to go back today because I left my plate there. Also, I checked off the checklist and then let Boggie out and he went poo but I forgot to say he did on the checklist. Sally's owner: Boggie went poo. =]

Boggie 4/4/11
Today was good! It was really windy outside! I went early because mom was doing the hard floors. I bought some yummy treats for Boggie at the dollar store Saturday. He likes them. He was a good walker today and met a dog that was very hyper. Her owner was saying that the dog was always hyper. He said it in a joking way, but I know that a dog like that could hurt herself or stuff around the household. That's why I stress so much about taking dogs for walks. If that dog walked for about 2-3 hours a day, she would be very calm. This is the conversation she had with Boggie:
Boggie: Why hello, there.
Rudy (I think her name was): Hello!
Boggie: Are you having a good walk?
Rudy: Let's play!
Boggie: No, thanks.
Rudy: Oh, come on, come on, come on!
Boggie: I'd rather not.
Rudy: Please please please please!
Boggie: You are too hyper for me. I think I'll go now.
Rudy: Fine. Bye!
As you can see, they were both very polite but Rudy was too outgoing. Anyways, I took Boggie back to my house. My cat had gotten shots Saturday and is just getting over her rabies shot, so she was lethargic. I took Boggie up to the front door, staying calm, and led him inside through the house to the back door. He was nervous because my cat was downstairs watching him, but she didn't do anything. She seemed a bit agitated. Me and Leah filmed a dog training video. I will put it up on my YouTube account soon. My username is rokinjaguar. Boggie was very good during it and did exactly what I wanted him to. Overall, I think Boggie had fun. It was warm!

Boggie 3/31/11
Tomorrow is April Fools Day! Be careful! My sister always pulls pranks on me. I'll have to think of something really good to best her. =] Anyways, I had been trying to get my friend to answer her door because I wanted to ask her if she would walk Boggie over the summer. It was weird! She didn't answer, even though I know she's homeschooled! I also heard a dog bark... Then today I took another look at the bumper stickers on their car, and it said they had two kids! I know they had more! They have six! I was at the wrong house! I scurried off down the road and found their real house. They answered the door and my friend came out. They had a new dog! It was cute and very good at heeling! We walked the dogs together as I asked my friend. She said she was going to ask her mom so I said I'd come get them some evening and take them to Boggie's house to meet his owner. Boggie walked for an hour and came home happy. He was a very good walker today, but he pulled a little because Buddy, my friend's malti-poo, kept "saying hi" or... sniffing his tail... Boggie was a very good boy because I dropped the leash fixing something and Boggie wandered to a nearby ditch and went poo, then came back. I finally got a system ready for the hide-and-seek treat-finding game. First I take a few treats. I put one in my hand and I hide the others while Boggie sits and stays in the other room. Then I walk over, he smells the treat in my hand, I say, "Ok! Go find them," and he runs off. When he finds them all, I say, "Ok! All done," give him the treat I kept in my hand, throw up my hands and walk away. He usually stops looking. If he keeps looking, I take him outside and play with him a little to distract him. Bye, Boggie!

Boggie 3/30/11
Boggie was the best today he has been in a long time. =] We walked for half an hour around the block. Boggie passed a bunch of birds without even looking at them. We saw a Miniature Schnauzer, the dog we are considering getting this fall. We are looking for a cheap puppy Miniature Schnauzer, but we also want it to be a mix, because the Mini Schnauzer's owner told me they are prone to bladder stones and diabetes. It is good to get a mix Schnauzer if it's a pet, because it is cheaper to buy and cheaper to take care of. Diabetes are expensive. Anyways, the dog didn't like Boggie, so I told him to sit and stay while I petted the dog. Boggie was such a good boy and stayed until I came back. Good boy!
The daily ritual is this:
I walk here.
I walk up to the door.
I unlock the door.
I open the door.
I wait a few seconds outside the door.

Boggie 3/29/11
Boggie is such a great listener! He picked up his soccer ball, but when I said "do your business" and he dropped the ball and went potty! =] Our walk was fun. We passed by a cat. Boggie wanted to chase it, but I corrected him every time he stared at it. After all, staring is rude! Haha! The walk was a vigorous one. We walked pretty fast. I was tired when we came home, and Boggie was happy. He pooped in his backyard. When I opened the door, he ran in, so I told him to go back outside, waited a little, then let him in. He will eventually get it. =] I threw a treat at him, but it fell under the couch, so I gave him another one. I said "wait" but apparently I did not say it fast enough because he ate it, so I threw another treat and told him to wait. This time he did! =] Boggie is a good boy. I am happy to walk him. I only hope someday I can get a dog of my own that is as good as him!
I forgot to talk about yesterday. We walked for an hour with neighborhood friends and their dogs. Boggie was a good boy. I did not let Susan, the malting-poo, smell Boggie because she was constantly barking and was not being very polite. They has a good time walking, though.

Boggie 3/24/11
Today Boggie played a game with me. We took a walk, which was wet and slightly cold. There were lots of birds that Boggie wanted to chase, but he didn't. Instead, he stayed with me on the leash. The game we play is called "Go Find It." I make Boggie sit and then I hide some treats around the room. Then I tell Boggie "ok" and "go find it." He runs around trying to find the treats he knows I put there. He is getting better at finding them and I hope to sharpen his smelling skills. I try to make him smell the treats before I hide them. It's kind of like working dogs that find people and stuff. He is also getting good at leaping his makeshift hurdle on command. I did a photo shoot with him because he seemed very photogenic.

Boggie 3/21/11
Today was good. We walked for an hour with neighborhood friends again. Boggie was good.
Boggie 3/22/11
Boggie looks pretty fit! Recently my sis has not been coming with me and I walk faster when I have no one to talk to, so Boggie has been getting more exercise! =] He is a very obedient boy and obeys me all of the time (well, almost all). Boggie loves his leash because it means he gets to travel with his favorite godmother and he gets to relax while I'm in control. He knows exactly what's expected of him when we walk. I am still thinking about what to name the bow trick. I might say something like let's play or I might just clap several times. What do you think? When we got home, I sat on the special chair Boggie is allowed on and he laid back with his head on my lap. He was so adorable! He also likes chasing squirrels and birds in his fortress backyard.

Boggie 3/17/11
Today was another hour-long walk because we got our friends again. They brought their dogs this time. They have a walker hound named Basil and a malti-poo named Susan. The pack leader walks in the front, so I led Boggie to the front because Susan tends to be dominant and Basil is a slow walker. Boggie did very well. He seemed to enjoy the pack walk. He is so cute when I first walk in! He stands there and waits until I say: "You wanna go outside" and then he skips and bounces over to the back door.
Boggie 3/16/12
Boggie walked for an hour today. We got our neighborhood buddies and walked around the neighborhood. I let one of our friends walk Boggie a little and he did great (both dog and friend). Boggie was very calm and a bit pulley because our friends are not the calmest of types and Boggie was a little excited.

Boggie 3/15/11
Today Boggie was a very good boy. He completely respected me and obeyed me. After he went potty I took a little bone treat and hid it from him. Those kind of treats are hard to smell, so I had to point them out for him. On the walk, when we were running down the hill, some candy and my iPod fell out of my pocket. Boggie was a good boy and did not eat them after I corrected him once, then I let him smell all over and poo in the smelly clearing while I wrote this. I picked up his poo and off we went. At home I did a little treat treasure hunt. After he found them all he kept looking, so I said all done and brought him to the back door. I made him sit and wait before I opened the door and he leaned over and drank some water while still sitting! Good boy! I opened the door and said okay so he got up and drank more water. Silly Boggie! I rolled my eyes and went outside. A few seconds later he followed me. I went back inside and did some school before I left.

Boggie and Penny 3/14/11
Today Penny came over for a play-date with Boggie. She responds much quicker than he does but is much more dominant. Boggie was hyper because of it. He was very good on our walk, as was Penny. I took off two stones from Boggie's hurdle and convinced Penny to jump over it. She understood quickly but doesn't seem like a natural jumper like Boggie is. They are bestest friends! =] They like to sit on the chair with me.

Boggie 3/10/11
Today I decided to just walk Boggie normally, without all of the "no-leash" stuff. It was sprinkling a little when I got there. The rain did not get worse than just sprinkling. Dogs are so much easier to handle when they are on a leash! A little lost squirrel ran across the road in front of us, and it only took two tiny tugs on the leash and a small noise and Boggie completely ignored it! Near the end of the walk, a little miniature pincher puppy ran over to a mailbox and peed on it. I looked around but didn't see an owner, so I crouched down and held my hand out making little calling noises. The puppy looked interested. I didn't make eye contact with the pup, and threw a little treat near me. The puppy walked forward a little, but then looked up at a house. The owner had just walked out and was talking on the phone. The puppy ran up to the owner so I stood up and let Boggie eat the treat. I haven't had much time recently, so I have not been working on the light thing. Boggie was a good boy today. He was awesome at walking!

Boggie 3/9/11
Today I tried to not put the leash on Boggie again. He was very distracted! He kept walking into the grass and walking in front of me. However, he was very good at other times! We walked right past a group of people talking and he didn't even look up. Near the end of our walk, I decided that enough was enough. It wasn't worth it to have to keep correcting Boggie; he didn't even seem to enjoy it much, so I snapped the leash on. Right away he respected me. At the end of our walk, he was happy. He played with me and got fed treats from Angel. We love Boggie.
Boggie 3/7/11
Today was a good pack leader day. I decided it was time to try to walk him without a leash. So instead of letting it drag I wrapped it around his neck. He was very good at following. One time he went ahead and so I turned around. I walked a little and looked back to see if he was following. He wasn't. He was going pee in some grass. I didn't get angry. I didn't scold him. I simply walked up to him and called him. He followed me and we started walking again. I was more careful after that. All I need to do to get him to slow down if he passes me is make a little noise like: "shhh". He responds very well. I stop the noise as soon as he heels. We had a good time. Boggie was very calm. He licked me a lot.
Boggie 3/8/11
I walked Boggie today without a leash. I didn't even clip it on! I just put it in my pocket. He was pretty good. He got distracted a couple of times. We walked past a guy looking in the trunk of his truck, and Boggie walked right up to him! Scared the heck out of him! He was very good. Nothing much else to report today. Bye, Boggie!

Boggie 3/2/11
Leah came with me today to Boggie's, which is good because she is going to walk him tomorrow. I am babysitting so I can't walk him. We decided to go to the woods. Boggie was great, but we remembered the ticks had come back and they were bad, so we walked around the neighborhood for a while. He heeled well and was happy when we came back. I told Leah to shine the flashlight on the ground and I walked Boggie past it. He was good yesterday because it wasn't moving. Today was not as good, but it was better than the first time because the walking gave him something to do. He was a little freaked out so we watched a couple episodes of the Dog Whisperer by Cesar Milan and then played with him outside a little. We noticed he was limping a little, but I think it's fine because it was not very obvious. If it was obvious then I would be concerned. I think he showed some progress in his rehabilitation today! Bye, Boggie!

Boggie 3/1/11
Boggie was wonderful today! He waits s long time until I tell him it is okay to eat his treat. We went running in the woods. I walked like I had somewhere to be so Boggie walked with me. We had fun and a great workout! He heeled perfectly and we were tired after our walk. Boggie waded in the two streams and jumped over a fallen log. When we got back I set up the flashlight so it shone in the hall without anyone to hold it. Then we walked beside it many times. When Boggie became fixated on it, I pulled up on his leash to keep him looking up. We walked around and around and around, and Boggie was improving! The only bad thing today was that after we rehabilitated, I let Boggie outside. He was still not calm and he was really excited, so he wanted to play. I tried to get him to sit down, but he ran away from me and started barking. I did NOT want him to put his bad energy into something. I called him and he did not call, so I started walking to the back porch. It was then when he was a good boy and followed me. I made him sit and stay while I read some schoolwork. When he was calm I played with him and then left him in a good mood. My camera's battery is out and I don't have a charger right now so I will take pictures later.

Boggie 2/28/11
Today was an average day with Boggie. We walked for half an hour because his owner told me he had been limping and because I was needed at home in an hour. Then we watched tv whilst I finished a book called Sword Quest. It's about birds needing to find a hero because the archaeopteryxes were inslaving them. It's pretty good. Boggie heeled almost perfectly and responded pretty well to my corrections when he stared at a dog that was walking behind us. I did not do the flashlight thing today because I had not walked him enough. Bye, Boggie!
P.S. I have not yet tried to teach him bow yet because I have not thought of any words to use yet. Let's play? Take a bow? Good job? The problem with plain old bow is that it sound like down and the hand motions are going to be similar, but not exact. Any suggestions?

Boggie 2/25/11
Today was Friday, so I didn't have to walk Boggie, but I wanted to anyways, because I was outside with my friends and we had nothing to do. We walked around the neighborhood a little, and Boggie did great. We went to my house because we still could not figure out what to do. Daffy Duck, our long haired tortoiseshell female spayed cat -gasp- was in the backyard. Boggie was kind of scared of her, so I walked him back and forth and did not let him stare at her, as that is rude. Daffy was nonchalant and probably did not even care that he was there. I made him roll over for me and he stayed there until Daffy went inside. When dogs are on their side, it is a submissive stance because they are showing their stomach, which is one of their weakest spots. When Daffy went inside I led Boggie over to where she was. He did not want to be there but graciously stood by me, waiting for my signal. We decided to go to the woods, because my friend had found a swamp a couple weeks back. On the way to the swamp, we saw a snake near the half-broken-down-house and became a little paranoid for a little bit. We did not find the swamp, but we found a wooded area with a river running through it. I let Boggie run and play and we threw sticks for him. After an hour, I got bored do I climbed a tree that had small branches. I fell six feet down onto the ground, but I was lucky because I put my body in a defensive posture and did not brake anything. I just bruised my foot and scratched up my arm from the branch that I broke and dragged down with me. I had obviously been guided by God to fall where I did, because when I looked around, there was broken milk jugs and metal bars and pointy things all around me but not on the spot where I fell. =] Boggie had an awesome time, but he was muddy so I washed him off with his hose.

Boggie 2/23/11
Boggie had a good time today. I thought it was cold, so I brought my coat, but I took it off in the woods. We ran around. Boggie was perfectly good! I only had to correct him a few times! We ran around in the woods. He was dirty when we started to walk back. There wasn't really anything important to say about today, other than it being a perfect day! Boggie's rehabilitation with the flashlight light was not good today. It's hard to shine the light and tell Boggie with actions not to focus on it at the same time. Next time I will fix it up so where it shines by itself and I will walk Boggie past it because if we are walking he will have a harder time focusing on the light. Bye, Boggie!

Boggie 2/22/11
Today was the start of a high-exercise walking. Cesar Millan " the dog whisperer" says that what a dog needs is half exercise, one fourth training, and one fourth affection, so I am going to walk Boggie in the woods for a long time from now on. Boggie was great and quickly learned that he was not to run off unless we tell him he can by saying: "okay, Boggie! Go on!" He does great. He loves to play with sticks when we rest! We walked for a long time! When we came home, Leah took the flashlight and shined the light in front of Boggie. I jerked the leash when he looked at it and walked him around for a couple of minutes. Boggie got a little better I think. Then we lied down by the door outside with it open and waited for Boggie to stop shaking. When he did, I let him outside and then tried blowing bubbles. He still didn't get it. He did well today and when we left he was exhausted! Bye, Boggie!

Susan and Basil 2/21/11
I was hanging out with my neighborhood friends and we were bored so we decided to walk their dogs. (If only I had one!) I asked them if I could try Cesar Millan the Dog Whisperer's techniques on their little Maltipoo (Maltese/Toy Poodle mix). They let me so I gently laid her on her side and held her there until she seemed more relaxed. Then I spent around ten minutes issuing little harmless tugs on her harness to tell her to walk next to me, but I grew quickly bored of that, so I used the leash upside down putting a slip knot around her neck. It worked very well! She hardly pulled after that, but I could tell she did not like it as much as the harness. She tried to bite it a couple times, but gave up later and walked beautifully. She was such a good dog. I did not walk Basil (some kind of hunting dog, I forget which) because he has artheritus. (How do you spell that?) After our walk, we sat down in front of their lawn. Susan (the Maltipoo) barked at every dog that passed. Everytime she did that I gently laid her on her side and "bit" her with my fingers. I held her there until she calmed down, and she showed a little progress at the end. She is such a pretty dog! I tried to get Basil to do some tricks and he responded very well! He sat when I gently lifted his chin and put a little pressure on his behind. Then I tapped his ankle and he lifted his paw to shake my hand. They were great!
Boggie 2/21/11
Today I did not have to walk Boggie because it was Presidents Day. I didn't. Instead I brought some bubbles and a flashlight for some games and psychology. Boggie has not played with bubbles that I know of, but he gets extremely stressed when a flashlight's light is pointed at something. The owners he had before his current owner didn't walk him. That's a no-no if you have a dog. Walks release pent-up mental energy in dogs. Instead of walking Boggie, they used a laser pointer to exercise him. That made him even more excited and they probably rewarded him when he was in that exited state. I recently read that if you don't face a problem in dogs, it just gets worse. You cannot avoid it forever. The more you face a problem, the faster the dog gets over it. So I shined the flashlight on the floor and body-blocked Boggie when he tried to chase it. He didn't understand what I was telling him to do. I made him lay on his side with his head on the floor. That is a submissive posture for dogs. I didn't pet him and I didn't talk to him except to say: "stay" and push his head back up to the ground if he raised it. I simply let Boggie drink in my confidence and calmness. After a while I would shine the light near his head. If he looked at it I would "bite" him with my fingers and make a little noise. He would whine and whine. I put the flashlight on his side so he would not be scared of it, and I worked on shining the light on the ground. Every time he looked at it I put my hand under his jaw and gently lifted it up to avert his gaze or I pulled on his leash. My aim was to tell him to avoid it in a way he could understand. I brought him outside and walked a little while twirling the flashlight. It was cloudy so he couldn't see the light, but he knew the light came from the flashlight. Overall, I worked on letting out the anguish he had held in for so long; the bad feelings and memories of stress. He was very hyper and a little nervous after that, but his owner came home so we played with him a little and calmed him down. Tomorrow I will use the flashlight again, but only a little. I will use it before(AFTER) his walk, and then(BEFORE) walk all his bad energy off and replace it with good energy. Bye, Boggie!
P.S. I tried playing with bubbles with him and he didn't seem to see them. I left them at his house (sorry) so I will get them tomorrow and try them again. =]
***UPDATE***
I made a big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big (you get the picture) mistake today. It was not too bad, like it didn't mess him up, but it could have been way, way, way, way, way, way, way (again, you get the picture) better. I read in Cesar's Way: The Natural, Everyday Guide to Understanding & Correcting Common Dog Problems that fixations (what Boggie does with the light) are
"wasted energy, A dog needs to channel her energy into something in order to be balanced and calm-submissive. A dog living with a homeless person walks all day, so that's where the energy goes. A dog that lives with a disabled person has the physical-psychological challenge of keeping her owner safe, which is another way the dog releases her energy. Others who run and walk with their dogs on a regular basis help their dogs drain energy... So the [fixated] dog spends all day just looking up at the squirrel in the tree, becoming fixated on a squirrel that doesn't give a **** about the dog... All her energy is concentrated on the squirrel. That's one way of creating a fixation... If the owner gives the dog a command when it is in this fixated mode, the dog won't respond... I like to compare it to taking the kids to Chuck E. Cheese's versus taking them to piano lessons. Chuck E. Cheese's will have them bouncing off the walls. That's excitement. Piano lessons will be a psychological challenge. That's calm submission... A fixation is just like an addiction in a human, and can be just as dangerous. Think of a gambling addict in Las Vegas, sitting there all night, pouring coins into a slot, and pulling that one-armed bandit, for hours on end. That's a fixation... At the Dog Psychology Center, if we're going to play with a ball, I make sure that before we do, everybody's quiet. If I'm going to feed the dogs dinner, first, everybody's quiet. If I'm going to give affection, first, everybody's quiet. I never give anything to the dogs if their minds are not calm-submissive. That's how I make a fixated dog become normal. Because he never gets anything if he's in that state... We also never play or eat without doing some sort of vigorous exercise -- walking, running, or Rollerblading -- first. Draining energy is vital... [Working on Jordan the Bulldog] With each object, instead of pulling the object away from him, [the owner messed up by doing that, it feeds the dog's predatory instincts] I challenged him to back away from it, thus claiming the object for myself. Every time he moved forward, I corrected him with a tug. This eventually sends a signal to the brain that what I want is submission. I went forward instead of moving away from him. And I stayed with that same calm-assertive energy until Jordan finally got it, but because he had been living in that fixated state for so long, it wasn't easy. I was dripping with sweat by the end of the session... If a dog's problems have been going on a long time, you're going to need to do this again and again and again -- perhaps for months if the fixation is really bad."
So basically I'm going to take Boggie on a nice, long (I mean REALLY long) walk before I help him snap out of it. Then I am going to make him sit and tug on his leash (placed on the higher part of the neck for more control) every time he looks at or goes toward the light. (Don't go toward the light, Boggie! ;p) I will start with it being still, and do that for a while, until he doesn't look at it. Then I will start to move it. If I avoid the problem, he will never be able to get over it. It will take a long time, but I am willing to work with him for however long it takes, for around ten or so minutes every time. Then I will go inside (if I am outside) and I will not talk or pet him until he calms down. After he is calm I will pet him and give him treats and rub his belly and love him a lot. He will be a happy, perfect boy after we tackle this thing! =]
P.S. I tried playing with bubbles with him and he didn't seem to see them. I left them at his house (sorry) so I will get them tomorrow and try them again. =]

Valuable Lesson 2/17/11
Today the dogs were wonderful and I felt great, so I played with them roughly. The result ended in a slightly swollen lip, but no blood. It was a "alright, that's enough" bite. Penny did not mean to hurt me. Here's what happened: we were playing without toys, meaning I was wrestling with them and play nipping at their heels like a rambunctious puppy. Boggie liked it pretty well and played back, but Penny thought it was kind of annoying. I got her to play with us after a little while, and she prances around with Boggie a little until they found the candy that fell out of my pockets. They only ate a little before I realized what it was and made them stop. I played with them a little longer and chased them and stuff. Then Penny started to walk away. I followed her, thinking she was still playing, but she wasn't. Her tail and posture should have shown me she wanted to stop. She went under the table and I followed her, poking at her rump. "Stop it!" she growled, snapping at me. I felt a pang on my lip and yelped to show my displeasure, backing out from under the chair. She followed. I told her to lay down, then pushed her on her side because I was upset and didn't want her to take over as pack leader. I held her there while I got a hold of myself, then I stood up and they went potty outside and then I left.
Valuable Lesson: If a dog is showing signs of wanting to stop, back off. They will snap at you if you bother them too much and they can't get away. It's flight or fight for them. Don't make them choose fight.
Signs:
Tail between the legs
Growling
Running away (sometimes they are still playing and want you to chase them)
Slinking
Slouching
Backing away fearfully
Whining
P.S. It was my fault and I do not blame Penny for snapping at me. Also, it did not hurt much and is not a big deal.

Boggie and Penny 2/17/11
Bark! Bark! was the welcome I received when I biked to Boggie's today. When I walked inside, Boggie stretched and frolicked over to the door. Penny was a little hesitant like always. When we came inside, I thought I'd do a little pack leader exercise in the School for Dogs. I told them to lay down, then I rolled them on their sides and pet their stomachs. Wolves in the wild dominate other wolves by rolling them on their sides to expose their stomachs. Boggie let me willingly, but Penny still wanted to be leader, so I gently but firmly put her on her side and pet her stomach, pushing her head down a little. After I did that, she jumped up and wiggled her behind as if to play. Sure enough, I batted at her paws and she bowed playfully. We started walking and I dropped their leashes. I had to remind Penny what to do then, but she was not slow. She was slow last time because she was hesitant of following me. This time, when I ran down the hill, she ran too, although she was still a little hesitant. We walked over to the little clearing with many interesting smells. I think I will name it... Smelly Place. I led them over, and Boggie kept smelling and getting distracted. I called them and ran over to the other side, expecting them to follow. Penny did, but Boggie was smelling, so I walked over and "bit him" with my fingers on the rump. They were very good at following on the street, it was just the smells that distracted Boggie. On the way, I made Penny submit again, which made her playful. Then we ran home and I played with them until I had to leave. I love walking them. They are so sweet and obedient.

Today was a nice day. It wasn't cold, but it wasn't warm. If you were cold, you were going to stay cold. If you were warm, you were going to stay warm. Boggie and Penny enjoyed the weather. Boggie was excited today and he officially knows say hi. I am now going to teach him to bow. Not today though. Today is just a review in the school for dogs. =] Our walk was wonderful! I let go of their leashes for the first time that Penny was here. At first, she didn't know what to do, so I kept calling her. Near the end she walked by me. It wasn't a normal walk where they walk by me just without the leash, it was a walk were they choose to either walk beside me or behind me. Half of the time they were beside and half of the time they were behind. Boggie saw Wilson, a little dominant Yorkie who belongs to the people I babysit for, out walking. He stared, but he looked away like a good boy because I jerked hard. The dog whisperer, Cesar Millan, tells people to match the ferocity of their pets when correcting them. Boggie also stayed calm, although doubtful, when a dog behind a fence growled and barked at us. Anyways, they became distracted a lot so I kept calling them and making hand signals. They had a great walk, though. They were really calm when they came home and I recorded their tricks, except for Boggie's roll over trick. It was a good day for the doggie school. Bye!

Today I wanted to see if I could get them to stop barking as I was walking up, so I stood and didn't move forward unless they weren't barking. It took a little bit, but I did it. They were pretty good. I knocked on the door and let them bark then. Hey did well on their walk. They both heeled perfectly and calmly on their leash. Boggie saw a dog and wouldn't look away so I grabbed his head with my knees and hands and forced him to look away. After a little bit, he was content to walk next to me. When Penny came back I put my fingers next to her head and kept them there for her to get used to hands around her head. She is so good! She let's me grab her ears, her paws, her tail, and licks me when I ask her to. Boggie is such an affectionate boy! He has gotten much better about dogs. When he sees them, he stares, which is rude, but he gets better soon. We played around outside and then I left. Whenever I leave, I say: "bye, Boggie", so he knows that when I say that then I'm leaving. They were great!

Boggie and Penny 2/14/11
Happy Valentine's Day! The weather is perfect for a day outside and walking Boggie! We walked a little bit to our friend's house to see if they could walk with us. They were busy, so Boggie and Penny watched us play basketball for a little while we waited. They were happy in the shade and I think Penny is not afraid of the basketball anymore! She was afraid when basketballs kept hitting the garage door near her so I made her air while I bounced the basketball around her and put it against her face. I think she is okay now. We walked back after a little bit and the dogs were so glad to be home. It was a very mentally draining walk. Boggie now knows say hi and is very good at it. It is also taking less time for him to settle down. I didn't take any pictures. Bye!
Boggie 2/10/11
Today was a nice day outside, with the snow melting and the birds singing and the cars going everywhere. Me and Boggie had a nice long walk. He keeps wandering from me, so I had to hold his leash from time to time. During the walk, Boggie saw a red sports car and was so in awe of it that he fixated his eyes and I had to jerk on the leash. He loved this beautiful day, and when I told him to lie down, he did so heartily, basking in the warm winter sun. I didn't put anything extra on him today, because it was warm. I got lots of pictures because he was so photogenic and calm. When we walked again, Boggie walked past birds and people without even looking! I am teaching Boggie good manners by telling him to sit and wait when cars pass by. He is so good, and pays great attention to me. He likes it when I scratch his cheek.

Boggie 2/9/11
Today Angel, a lady who cleans Boggie's house, came. She comes every other Wednsday. Boggie is getting speak and down mixed up, so we will work on that. He was great on his walk and I don't have to pick up the leash at all! He's such a good boy! He is confusing say hi with jumping his hurdle, too. Say hi is very confusing for him but we will get it soon, I think. He jumps very high and pats attention to me very well. We had no problems on our walk. Love you, boy!

Boggie 2/8/11
Boggie is learning not to bark unless I say, "say hi!" He is very good at obeying but sometimes he doesn't understand. He even sat when I told him to, even though we were in the middle of playing keep away. On our walk, he was wonderful. He is really getting the hang of walking with the leash dragging behind him. I put his little coat and bandana on him and put my camera and iPod Touch in his coat so he would feel like he had a job. I only picked up the leash when I saw people putting their loud trashcans away. I wrapped the leash around him so it wouldn't remind him to heel but he was forgetful so I put it on the ground again. He is a very good boy and waits by my feet while I type out his day. Near the end of his walk, Boggie became tired, so I led him to the shade where we sat for a while and I typed here. While we were sitting there a car drove up near us and a person walked their dog near us so Boggie had plenty of practice focusing on me. After that we went to go pick up Boggie's poo, because I didn't have a poop bag when he actually went, so we walked over to a dispenser and got a bag. I made him carry his poo. =P We walked home then, and I had Boggie sit almost at the end of the street while I walked to the driveway. I called him, and he ran to me, but he dropped the stuff he was carrying, so I brought him inside and went back out to get the stuff. I put the poop bag in the spot where the trashcan was supposed to be because it had not been brought in yet. Right before I left I told Boggie to say hi, and he threw up some treats. He started licking it up so I fake lunged at him and he left it alone. I cleaned it up. It was on the hard floor near the dining room and kitchen. It was a nice day and we walked a whole hour! Bye Boggie!

Boggie and Penny 2/7/11
Today the dogs were perfect! I had to come and leave early because I had to babysit. Boggie and Penny smelled before I even came close. They barked and barked. When I came in, they went potty, then Boggie said hi and we went walking.
It was very pretty outside and birds were singing and people were outside so I held the leash. They were great, and I met someone out walking and showed her Boggie's new trick, but he was distracted. "Hey!" Boggie says, "she smelled like flowers! It was distracting!" They met two dogs when we were walking back, and Penny growled and lunged at the shih tzu, but I jerked her back and she stopped. "In my defense," she says, "that Mayzie growled first. I was just defending myself." Then we came back and watched the news about Egypt rebelling. I tried to get Boggie to jump the hurdle without a treat, but he didn't understand and kept barking. Oh, well. I will try again later. After that we left.
